6) pain radiates away from back to hip and then leg with burning sensation.
So, symptoms varies on causes from person to person.
Ayurveda refers this condition as Kati shoola or kateegraham.
Kati means lower back, shoola means pain.
Caused due to aggregation of vata.
How Backache is treated in Ayurveda?
Ayurveda treatment is planned according to dosha involvement Shodana(panchakarma) and shamana treatment.
Panchakarma treatment gives very positive results in backache.
1) Abhyanga followed by swedana.
2) sneha basti
3) kashaya basti
4) Kati basti
This panchakarma procedure is staanika basti, a circular ring in formed on the back with dough, then medicated Luke warm oil or taila is slowly poured inside the ring. Allowed to remain for 10-20 minutes, then removed.
This procedure is performed for 5 to 7 days depends upon the severity of pain and cause.
5) Patra pinda sweda
Medicinal properties rich herbal leaves are filled inside the cotton cloth pottali(bag), it is cooked in medicated oil, using this pottali gentle massage is given in lower back to reduce pain and aggregated vata.
6) Shashtika shaali pinda sweda
This procedure is done by making pottali with boiled Shashtika shaali cooking in medicated oil and gentle massage given on back.
This procedure gives muscular strength, heals strain on muscles and ligaments.
What is the diet to be followed to reduce aggrevated vata in back ache?
1) Always go for fresh fruits and vegetables
3) intake of fibrous food to prevent and treat constipation
4)Avoid sugar, salt, tea coffee
5) maintain weight

Nirgundi or vitex negundo has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, muscle relaxant property. so it is effective in backache
Guggulu or commiphora mukul treats arthritis, anti-inflammatory conditions.
Shallaki or boswellia serrata also acts as anti-inflammatory and has anti-arthritis action
Ginger reduces pain,
Improves Agni (digestive fire), improves digestion, anti-inflammatory properties.
Home remedies for backache:
1) Drinking warm milk with 1/4tsp of turmeric homemade powder once in a day good for bone and muscle strength in back pain.
2) Gentle massage with mustard oil boiled with garlic.
3) Alternate hot and cold pack for 10 min daily
