Ayurveda Natural Treatment of Thyroid (Hyperthyroidism), Herbal Remedies

An imbalance in the thyroid happens when there is an increase in ama (toxins) due to disturbed Agni, this causes accumulation of Ama resulting in vitiation of doshas and Dhatus.

Thyroid (Hyperthyroidism) gland is a butterfly-shaped gland that sits low on the front of the neck, below the Adam's apple.

The thyroid hormone controls the body's metabolism and transforms the food into energy. The thyroid gland releases 
T3 (triiodothyronine) and 
T4 (thyroxine).

These hormones play an important role in the regulation of weight, energy levels, skin, and Hair growth. One such condition is Hyperthyroidism. Hyperthyroidism happens when the thyroid gland secretes too much waste of thyroid hormones, also called overactive thyroid.
This results in high levels of 2 main thyroid hormones, triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine(T4) in the body.

What are the causes of Hyperthyroidism?

  • Age groups older than 60 are at risk. But may affect any age group, especially in females. 
  • Medical conditions like Graves’ disease and, thyroiditis (inflammation of the thyroid) may be due to viral infections, and medicines.
  • During or after pregnancy due to hormonal changes.
  • Taking too much of thyroid hormone tablets.
  • Non-cancerous growth of the thyroid or pituitary gland.
  • Consuming excess of iodine through diet.

What are the symptoms of Thyroid (Hyperthyroidism)?

  • Methi seeds 1/2 tsp soak in water overnight, have in the early morning with an empty stomach.
  • Roasted dhania seeds and jeera, each 1/4 tsp crushed and boiled in water, have this herbal tea once a day.
  • Intake of fresh Amalaki when available.
  • Intake of fresh leaves of brahmi early morning on an empty stomach or include Brahmi in your diet like preparation of fresh chutney with Coconut.
  • Ginger tea.
  • Boil grated ginger in a water filter and have it with a little honey.
  • Use coconut oil sesame oil or mustard oil for cooking.
  • Avoid Iodine-rich food.
